On 23. April 2006, an old dream came true for me when I purchased a long desired webcam.
Within two days, I finished an embryonic website, allowing not only me but just about anybody to take a glance at Oktogon and its surroundings using the net.
Statistics from the first day: 5 visitors, (3 friends, one family member and one don’t know who).
Unexpected success with nearly 3 000 visitors checking out the only remote controlled webcam in Budapest by the end of the month, including some foreigners.
We have passed one million a long time ago, which includes visitors to www.citylive.hu from all countries on this planet where an Internet connection is available.
Our website is accessed on 80-100 000 occasions per month on average, but this number can get much higher on special occasions like major events or demonstrations..
As this whole project has begun as a hobby, only limited time and money for development could be spared up till now..
In line with increasing requirements, we have moved to a new Internet host. Owing to the increased band width service provided by weblan, we can now broadcast a higher resolution picture with better continuity.
We have widened our range of services, allowing our visitors to place ads on our web site and our partners to insert the citylive camera view into their web sites..
Our future objectives include the installation of more cameras in similarly highly frequented locations, but I cannot reveal more details yet…
